Calcium HMB - Ward off Sarcopenia?

I ran across this from one of @RapAdmin articles and it really piqued my interest in avoiding sarcopenia.

The Sarcopenia Defense (Age 45+)
HMB (Calcium HMB): 3g daily. Specifically useful during periods of disuse (injury recovery) or caloric restriction to prevent catabolism.

Any reason not to add CA HMB to your stack???

Its mechanism of action is to activate mTOR, so that could be a potential reason to not use it continuously, at least. And I don’t think its mTOR activation is limited to skeletal muscle, either.

Thanks. Yes, usually things that are good for your muscles activate MTOR. I guess it comes back to the debate whether it is best to keep MTOR continually suppressed or a see saw approach where you inhibit MTOR at the beginning of the week and activate MTOR at the end. Kind of a best of both worlds philosophy.

Are there any RCTs that look at an approach like this? I’m guessing probably not. Probably the best we can do is look at pulsed Rapamycin data.

I think creatine is more effective and lower cost, see Lifelong Muscle Protection: The Key Factors are Aging, Protein, and Exercise - #5 by RapAdmin
