You know, when I did research on the new CBP rules a week or two ago I believe part of the logic for the CBP creating the new system was to insure no more ~$800 de minimus exemptions for imports in connection with import tariffs. And, all the new detailed information required of foreign shippers was to help guarantee the government gets every last penny of the rather whimsical tariffs being imposed on other countries. Whether or not there’s any truth to that, I don’t know, but it is an irritating thought. And, even though a few million dollars more or less in tariffs sounds big to the average person, it’s just a drop in the bucket for the US Budget.

The new process has been in use since September 22 - in apparently voluntary, test mode. Presumably Maulik’s stuff will go through this process, hence the reference to additional paperwork.
