I’ve never paid much attention to it, but my BUN readings on my last few blood tests have been marginally out of the acceptable range on the high side. My doctor has dismissed these readings as likely to be dehydration on the day of the test. But I came across some recent articles that suggested that a chronically higher BUN reading may be caused by excess ammonia. Another article suggested that there is a fairly common SNP that causes elevated ammonia. Has anyone done any testing for ammonia after receiving an elevated BUN reading or hyperammonemia and connected that with a DNA SNP?
Dehydration though is the most probable cause if before that your BUNcwas usually normal. What’s your creatinine reading?
