Bryan Johnson wants to start a new religion in which “the body is God”

Via MIT Technology Review

Seems odd that the MIT Technology Review would publish this.
Very strange?
I guess if L. Ron Hubbard can start a “religion” so can anyone.

Did you mean “by a man”?

Yeah… wacko.
Too much money… too much time… too narcissistic!

As I drove from Las Vegas to the FL Keys a number of years ago we took some back roads through LA, AL and FL. Every little town and village had a “corner” with a church on one side, a “sea food” restaurant serving cat fish on the other (I don’t consider cat fish to be sea food).

At that time (2008) I felt inspired to start a church myself… was going to call it The Church of the Cat Fish, a one stop shop to worship and eat

I planned to be the King Cat  but as it often happens with my dreams, the Boss shut it down LoL!

The writer was at the Berkeley Vitalist meeting I reported on the other week: Vitalist Bay, a Pop-Up City in the SF Bay Area - #24 by RapAdmin

I sat down with Johnson at an event for people interested in longevity in Berkeley, California, in late April. We spoke on the sidelines after lunch (conference plastic-lidded container meal for me; what seemed to be a plastic-free, compostable box of chicken and vegetables for him), and he sat with an impeccable posture, his expression neutral.

Earlier that morning, Johnson, in worn trainers and the kind of hoodie that is almost certainly deceptively expensive, had told the audience about what he saw as the end of humanity. Specifically, he was worried about AI—that we face an “event horizon,” a point at which superintelligent AI escapes human understanding and control. He had come to Berkeley to persuade people who are interested in longevity to focus their efforts on AI.

You guys are painting a bleak future. Unfortunately I agree. Whether it’s Skynet for “Terminator”, or the dual societies of “Hunger Games”, I don’t know.
But some people pursuing body is god, and the general population controlled by A.I. is not a bright future.

As the first ordained Pastafarian Minister in Australia in 2013 … I have no idea what you all are claiming of religion being invented by man.

Any religion where beer, pirates, and discussing his noodly appendage is usual talk … sign me up.

It is sad as in their documentation that pirates were very protective of global warming and with the decline in pirates, the planet has warmed. Clearly we need more pirates!

It was a bit funny in AU - in my EM Consultant office - I shared with 2 other consultants, they had their diplomas up … I just had my Pastafarian Minister Certificate up.

With the problem of money solved, he is desperately searching for something to worry about.

AI should be used to fix a bunch of stuff and make us much better before it turns stinky bad and does away with us. People keep thinking the time is now, but it may never come at all. It might be just a huge waste of money.

My beautiful and very expensive farm computer using GPS to drive the tractor really does not work well even on a good day. I mean we are so very far from having machines do my job. If I accidently live 200 years i can still do this better than a machine. Good luck coming up with a machine that can not only replace us but defeat us entirely? Somebody is on serious medication. It’s not happening.
