Bryan Johnson says he might have taken 'this whole longevity thing too far'

FWIW …

If this isn’t a publicity stunt this is stupid.

It’s clearly a joke

He is 100% trolling… it is certainly a joke.

Is there some reason why we should care what BJ is doing, thinking or saying? He doesn’t have any qualifications that would make him worth listening to wrt. health and longevity and his regimen as a whole has no scientific credibility. Time is limited and better spent on interrogating more credible sources.

Well, he does experiments that no one else is doing and reporting the findings. Some of it should be taken with a grain of salt but it’s not entirely worthless. I’m not exactly glued to everything he is doing but some of it is interesting.

Given the mass of supplements he takes and the sheer number of interventions makes it hard to do experiments or draw firm conclusions - the chance of some completely unknown interactions is sky high. YMMV.

When he does something new, he measures the impact that specific thing has on whatever he’s measuring without changing anything else. It’s not a thoughtless experiment.

Yes, but it’s hard to do. For example, SGLT2i flushes out lithium. Unless you knew about this, you wouldn’t know to measure for it. And if you were already supplementing with a given dose of lithium, now you are getting only 50% of that - the effects might not show up for years, and you’d be none the wiser, or months/years down the line not connect it to this interaction. Once you add the buckets of different supplements and interventions which themselves are shifting all the time (as he adjusts his stack), it’s a hopeless task. For example I only take 6 prescription meds (3 of which are LLTs - pitavastatin, bempedoic acid and ezetimibe), but it literally takes me months and years just doing the literature research on interactions - I try to read each and every paper I can find - before I add another med just for that reason - complexity - and then continue to run tests on myself for monitoring purposes. Like, I’ve been researching adding acarbose for four years now, and still have not pulled the trigger. I cannot even begin to imagine researching BJ’s stack - literally impossible. But hey, spray and pray too is a way!

I may be overly obsessive, but BJ seems at the other end. A happy middle is likely best - and BJ is not that.

Yep, I find his approach pretty unserious. He could have spent those millions on sponsoring a small clinical trial instead, which could have had more scientific impact.

A small clinical trial wouldn’t have had the cultural impact however.

Yes, that’s why I said scientific. Pretty clear he’s buying eyeballs.
