Blurred vision, did i get real rapamycin

Hi.
First post.
I bought some Zydus brand rapamycin from Ghandi Medicos last year. Took it for a few months, 5mg once a week.
Noticed that my vision was a bit blurry. Like i had to consciously focus on something to stop it being blurry. Didn’t connect it to the rapa i was taking, thought i was just getting old.
After i stopped taking it, my vision recovered.

Does this mean i likely got genuine rapamycin?
I’m looking to order some more now.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the site.

We don’t see it very often here on the site (not sure if I’ve heard any reports at all), but “blurry vision” is a side effect that is documented in the literature for organ transplant users of rapamycin (who dose daily at higher levels), so its likely that yes, you have real rapamycin, and also likely that unfortunately you seem to be suffering from a side effect that sometimes happens with rapamycin.

See list below and link following:

Source: Sirolimus (Oral Route) Side Effects - Mayo Clinic

Possible responses to take in this situation might be:

  1. Stop rapamycin entirely
  2. Try low dose (e.g. 1 or 2 mg week) to see if you still get the side effect at that low dose.
  3. Try other pulsatile dosing strategies to see if those approaches might help minimize or obviate the side effect for you.

Thanks for the reply.
Glad to know they were probably legit.
I’m just chatting with that same vendor and they don’t have the Zydus brand, only biocon rapacan. I’ll likely try those.

I was thinking to go have an eye test before starting it, then another if my vision goes blurry, then again some time after stopping. To see if it’s having a permanent effect.
