Behavioral issues / short-fuse following weekly Rapamycin dose

Looking to hear if anyone has experienced anger issues following Rapamycin dose…

I started Rapamycin in March and have consistently noticed I have no control of my emotions and am often short tempered and anger very quickly. Just for context, I’m a 54 years old female (5’2", 104lbs) and take a weekly dose of 3mg. (Also in Menopause, wondering if changes in hormones are amplified by Rapa?) My husband, 53 (5’11", 185lbs) takes 6mg, but has not experienced any emotional issues surrounding weekly Rapamycin.

Based on the threads on this site, I started taking Lithium Orotate at 10mg and I didn’t feel much of an effect, but at 20mg my anger issues are somewhat ameliorated. So, just wondering if others have experienced behavioral issues as a side effect of Rapamycin and how you may have dealt with them.

Do you think that this issue might at all be tied into anxiety? If you’re feeling anxious and stressed you might be more prone to have a short-fuse.

We have had this report: Has anyone experienced anxiety seemingly triggered by rapamycin?

Also, in the long list of possible side effects, they do list this rather cryptic issue:

“change in mental status”

I’ve had a much milder version of what you describe. Lithium Orotate (LiO) is awesome stuff (see studies showing inverse correlation of ground water lithium and suicide/murder rates). If I were you, I’d take LiO daily at 5mg, and see if that helps over time. (Maybe higher following rapa dose.)

Other things you may want to try for calming/smoothing effects: TMG, taurine, magnesium.

Menopause can definitely tangle emotions; you may want to consult with your ND/whomever about hormonal precursors like pregnenalone. Also, def check Vitamin D levels.

Thanks for your reply and links (I don’t know how I missed the rapa/anxiety thread!) I hadn’t considered my “short-fuse” was related to anxiety, but that definitely would make sense considering the other things that are going on for me at the moment.

Yes, LiO has definitely done wonders! Normally whatever I take- Rapa/Niacin/Metformin, etc - I don’t see or feel any difference, but with LiO I can definitely say I feel a difference. With my last round of Rapa, I upped my intake to 20mg and as of today 30mg…hope this is not over doing it!

I experienced mild, dose dependent depression which is why I no longer take it and don’t plan to for a while. In my case it was manageable enough to endure for three months to achieve long term benefits. If it impacted my relationship as happened when antibiotics made me very angry then it would not have been worth it.

Consider trying everolimus as this did not cause me psychological side effects although it did cause more mouth ulcers.
