ApoA1 and ApoB blood test

Can someone explain to me what this test does and how to interpret the results. I’m sure I’m on the low side. Is it just another way to look at the cholesterol?

Basically ApoB is more accurate than LDL-C for cardiovascular risk.

The numbers on your report are in the units of g/L, whereas usually (at least in the US) these are reported as mg/dL, so with the unit conversion, your ApoB is 70 mg/dL and ApoA1 is 110 mg/dL. 70 mg/dL is decently low depending on various risk factors, but many people target lower.

Multiple lines of evidence have demonstrated that apoB is a more accurate marker of cardiovascular risk and the adequacy of lipid‐lowering therapy to lower cardiovascular risk than LDL‐C and non‐HDL‐C.

70 mg/dL ApoB for a male in the 60 to 69 years of age would be according to the NHANES III survey (as reported by the site of Dr. Mcdonald) below the 5th percentile, a pretty good value. But it is true that, according to Peter Attia based on the studies of Alan Schneider, the lower the better with no lower bound.

ApoA1 is the so called good cholesterol (HDL) and the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio is in the normal range if you’re below .6, so you’re right at the changeover to elevated.

Thanks everyone… so basically the only one of concern is ApoB… I am 49. I am not sure how much lower I can get it lol. I love my fried food and sugar (from bread, rice and chocolates) but I should try to stay away from them for a whole 3 months and do a retest. As for increasing ApoA1, I basically need to raise my omega 3 level right?

There are two quick and easy ways to lower your ApoB.

  1. Bempedoic Acid (or a statin)
  2. Ezetemibe

Have you tested Lp(a)?

What is Lp(a)? I have to ask my doctor…

What is your experience with both of them… Are they beneficial or have other benefits? I am reluctant to take any pills, that is why it took so long for me to start on metformin.

Bempedoic Acid has negligible side effects. Ezetemibe may inhibit absorption of ALA.

BUT, my LDL, ApoB and CRP all dropped by 45%!!! It’s simply amazing to go from a high risk of arteriosclerosis to a low with just one combination pill! My father had the same results.

My LDL went from 120 to 65. My father’s ApoB went from 130 to 65.

It’s nice to take cardiovascular disease off the table for a couple hundred dollars a year.

It is six times more atherogenic than LDL-apoB.

Ezetemibe may inhibit absorption of ALA.

The improvement in your LDL, ApoB and CRP certainly are fantastic. But personally I still find this a concern, that (at least in my personal situation) would make me hesitant to use it, unless the situation clearly warrants it. Is there anything one could do to somehow try to circumvent this issue - Ezetimibe apparently has a plasma half-life of ~22 hours.

Here’s the research
