This is a good, thoughtful podcast that just came out. The good news is that rapamycin (because it is so cheap) addresses one of the key issues, which is that anti-aging therapies will (for some significant period of time) only be available to the rich:

I liked the discussion of “death makes life meaningful” at 24:00. They distinguished between immortality as opposed to negligible aging, in which death is still inevitable, but the amount of life left is unknown.
I doubt that a population explosion will result from extended healthy life, as we have consistently seen slower growth with societal wealth and education, which I expect will continue.
