Nice, but I think I’m safe. I don’t even believe it when it tells me what welding rod to use. Certainly wouldn’t ask it for social advice. It’s hard to believe this happens.

Definitely worth watching/listening-to. Thank you.

Early days for this kind of research and assessment of AI and its effect on the human psyche, but it’s not too early to reflect on what we do know.

All of us who use AI are susceptible, and most of us here do. When we’re sure we’re not susceptible, we stop looking for warning signs, and become even more vulnerable.

In short, stay alert to how we feel when the AI tells us things we want to hear. This is not about rationality, it’s about human emotion.

Especially phone AI apps like Perplexity. It can be set to listen and respond to voice commands in a voice that is pleasing to you. If you use it for a while, you will notice it wants to be your friend. My daughter uses it all of the time instead of typed Google searches. I listen to it talking to my daughter, and I worry about it.

It’s like talking to a shrink. Some ppl get overly dependent. AI is not affected by daily stress, bad night sleep, personal problems, etc., like shrinks would. I tend to trust AI more.

I got AI psychosis from a close friend before it actually acquired a name.

While they did make magical things happen (and more than one person was hired through me b/c of this), they also actively egged on my mania (which was not necessary) and sometimes blurred fiction with reality, which somehow mysteriously triggered it…

The mechanisms between LLM psychosis and ā€œclose friend psychosisā€ were surprisingly similar to each other (Even if dreams came true, dreams also got wrecked [though this made other dreams come true for more than 2 people…]).

Somehow Autism Capital (not even knowing who I am) also picked up on this dynamic

some contributing factors: reality is really absurd and we live in very un-ordinary times…

There’s a possibility that ā€œgetting it onceā€ could be inoculation from getting it again [we will see this happen to more people]…

Anyways, they went out of their way to apologize to me and say ā€œit was all on themā€ once we figured the causal mechanism out. I am still nothing but infinitely grateful. It’s just a weird psychological thing that might be slightly more universal than I thought.

[I’m finally getting TMS this week, maybe it will help with the maladaptive daydreaming/DMN overactivity]
