ABBOTT’S FREESTYLE LIBRE 3 RECEIVES FDA APPROVAL

On May 31, 2022, Abbott received FDA approval for its next-generation continuous glucose monitor (CGM), the Freestyle Libre 3. The device has been available in Europe since September 2020 but was delayed in the U.S. due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About time! They’ve had it in Europe for 2 years already I think. And the existing Libre 2 is a pain because it seems so far off the numbers I get on my finger prick test.

I look forward to trying the Libre 3. Hope its more accurate.

I like these new features:

Unlike Abbott’s Freestyle Libre 2, it doesn’t need to be scanned every eight hours.

Its a lot smaller - looks to be about 30% smaller in diameter, and a lot thinner.

Interesting - doesn’t sound like its a whole lot more accurate from the limited info provided on it.
