this reminds me of my post some time ago when I “complained” about posts not having anything to do with Rapamycin News. I got beat up for it My suggestion then was to change the name of the forum to something else like Longevity News…
I think the people interested in rapamycin are a subset of those interested in longevity.
I get that. I was just saying the website’s name is “Rapamycin Longevity News” and maybe a better name would be Longevity News instead; with areas of different interest/subjects.
“Rapamycin News is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are a group of science-oriented professionals interested in longevity and healthspan, especially as it relates to the use of rapamycin, and other potential longevity drugs and therapies. The site was launched in October, 2021.”
Yes - rapamycin was the key therapeutic approach I was interested when I started the site, and the key area where I felt long and short term data was missing. Overtime it became clear that while rapamycin is the most cost effective, and broadly effective, longevity drug out there right now (for most people, I suspect), its still just one arrow in the quiver.
We’re all doing different things, and different supplements and medications, and learning; so we’ve broadened out so we don’t have to visit too many sites to discuss these issues that we all are interested in. Perhaps in the future I’ll change the name of the site, but as long as rapamycin is the most compelling drug out there, and one of the cheapest (so by far the best bang for the buck) - I still want to have this as a key area of focus.
There is no reason to rebrand… says the peanut gallery
I would respectfully disagree. It’s done all the time due to inherent change. Nothing wrong with having a name change that more accurately reflects the website. Don’t get me wrong; I think the site is awesome!
You are definitely entitled to your opinion!!
I’ll note, just as it’s done all the time, it’s also not done all the time
Rebranding the name would probably attract additional visitors. Some of the downsides to that are managing the greater number of visitors and topics.
I would hate to see the site degenerate into something like Reddit.
As it is, the site now allows a reasonable number of laymen to interact with health professionals, which I think is great.
You could, of course, put it up to a vote, but I will be voting nay.
I agree with you.
IMHO, a general longevity forum will attract a lot more people who will be introducing novice health topics which will inevitably lower the level of science based discussions.
If one enters a rapamycin forum, they have a certain level of advanced interest that will keep things at a higher level.
My point is, if there were thousands more like me, it would dumb down the joint
I don’t think there should be a vote. This is a kingdom. All hail RapAdmin.
Feel free to start a new thread on name change, this one is about AI
It’s useful to use AI systems to summarize a defined source, such as a podcast or the questions extracted from this forum by Perplexity (with sources!). It’s annoying to see large blocks of an AI’s answers to a question posted en bloc, especially without sources. People shouldn’t even do that with human-written literature reviews, let alone with low-barrier AI. I’d be quite happy to see such posts banned.
RapAdmin, No, don’t rebrand! Topics have definitely expanded beyond Rapamycin, but changing the name may very likely bring in a broader audience. At this point this website is manageable and very useful from my point of view as a user. And, using Rapamycin in the name attracts users with a certain mindset. The name alone may be restricting excessive new members which I consider a good thing. I use several other websites from time to time, including Reddit, where accessing good data is a very difficult task. I don’t like any of the other websites, but I do like this one because it’s easy for me to access the data. As DesertShores noted, “I would hate to see the site degenerate into something like Reddit.”
