Who cares what tech bros take? If anyone wants to waste $700 or $7000 a month on useless supplements, that’s their affair. But, I do care about what they promote. Many of the most over-the-top biohackers also have significant platforms. And since so many people seem to equate wealth with brilliance, when these guys make outlandish claims in their podcasts or Twitter feeds about their “miraculous” products, it creates tons of confusion and sends otherwise reasonable folks on buying sprees for useless supplements that they don’t need and won’t benefit from. It’s incredibly irresponsible.
If this were reversed, there’d be no end to the victimization narrative (…‘systemic sexism, blah, blah, blah…’).
It’s hilarious that we all accept the ‘genetically pre-disposed’ narrative without a whimper. Try using the ‘genetically pre-disposed’, even when it’s literally proven (‘science!’) in other scenarios.
I didn’t see any of the “women are superior” or “men are disgusting” either explicitly or as subtext anywhere in that article. Moreover, whether we’re discussing her results or his—they are each just one data point. There is very limited evidence for most of what both of them do—outside of exercising. Intermittent fasting has essentially been debunked as a cure all, and that is what they mostly have in common.
But, most of your comments have nothing to do with protocols. Instead, everything you’ve written in this thread seems to be enraged about something you perceive as male victimization. I’m not sure how any of that fits into this community or this conversation. No one else here has said a thing about women vs men and their respective approaches to longevity—only you. And while most of the well-known and vocal body-hackers are tech bros, I would be equally critical of their irresponsible comments if they were “tech sisters” (I haven’t met many of those, but they’re probably out there somewhere).
Also not in evidence, is any suggestion by anyone here that body-hacking tech bros are exhibiting “toxic masculinity”. The only person to voice that is you. I think they may be exhibiting toxic gullibility. But that’s a different thing.
The demographic fact that in modern society women have a slight edge over men on actuarial tables men is hardly an ideological point. And, as to your suggestion that if the body hacking trends were reversed —with women doing most of it—that women would be cast as victims… in point of fact, women have been painted as vain, self-involved, and shallow throughout history for trying to remain young looking, and for trying to preserve their vitality. They have also been (and continue to be) far more castigated than men for every sign of age (just look at the casts of every movie and TV show). In the professional world, a woman over 40 might as well be a cadaver if she is looking for a job, an acting role, a modeling position, an executive post, to join a board of directors, to get funding for a startup, etc. A man at 45 is considered to be hitting his stride.
Personally, I didn’t think this community had any real sex-bias. But your comments would suggest otherwise.
I have put the previous replies to me on ignore. That should be it the end of it as far as I am concerned.
I could take the time to further prove my complaints with this terribly biased and poorly written article, but given the horrible response I got from this person, I think such efforts would be a waste of time.
Alex - I have to say that as an observer (and male), it seems you have not been constructive and a lot of the focus does not seem relevant to the goals of this forum.
Please try to be more inclusive and constructive and focus on the science and medicine.
Everyone… please be respectful even when you disagree. We have a policy, its fine to criticize the science (and indeed its encouraged, if you see issues with the science), but please go easy on the people. Everyone needs to be treated with respect here or you will be banned.
There absolutely shouldn’t be any sex-bias or discrimination of any kind or even an attitude that indicates that. I find it extremely upsetting to see.
Come to think of it, I better be careful. I don’t want to end up in the Rapa Dungeon. I can imagine crouching on the cold wet floor say “Kansel, ol’ buddy, think you could spare a metformin?” Gloomy future indeed. Maybe I could cough up a credit card or two so we could play match the numbers. But at least Kansel is only crazy, he’s not a misogynist. Please don’t put me down there with that guy! I’ll be good, I promise.
Needs no explanation.
Is that located in the Rapamycin Castle{ surrounded by green grass fields and a moat] in the mTOR country side?
