Taking rapamycin a day after a hard resistance training session?

Here is an article in support of letting muscles heal without the negative impact of a fast. I’ve started pushing beyond 24 hours to get a full repair.

I would skip it on the same day as doing heavy resistance training. I often take it either 24 hours or 48 after a heavy full body resistance training or 48 hours before. That has had no effects on my performance. Note that muscle protein synthesis bumps up a lot for about 48 hours after a heavy resistance training sessions. So if you take the dose 24 hours after a training session, you still get a strong anabolic response for the first 24 hours so even if the response is attenuated after dosing you still got a lot of the anabolic response. If you take a dose 24 hours before resistance training, you might get a blunted anabolic response for the first 24 hours after training, but it should pick up in the remaining 48 hours. Anyways none of this has had any effects on my performance or results from training, including my ability to gain muscles and get stronger.

The only thing I’ve done is skipped resistance training on Rapamycin days but I usually train the day before and after. I really can’t tell if it is making a difference one way or another anecdotally.

Here’s some evidence that rapamycin’s effect on muscle hypertrophy isn’t overwhelmingly inhibitory. They selectively manipulated the TGFB-family signaling cascade within myofibers (as opposed to both myofibers and satellite cells).

They found that a dominant negative ActRIIB was sufficient to induce hypertrophy (ActRIIB is the receptor for myostatin, which you’ll recognize as the ligand which is neutralized by follistatin). They found that rapamycin was only able to inhibit 33% of the muscle growth induced by dominant negative ActRIIB, which shows that it’s possible to retain the majority of myofiber hypertrophy in the context of mTOR inhibition. This is not exactly news, but I found the study relevant since they specifically used rapamycin.

Thanks for sharing! I’m very curious to hear what dose of rapamycin they used in the mice study. I sent a question to Roberta to see if she can provide that information because I think that is also important to take inconsideration.
