I was wondering the same thing @Walter_Brown. I found a few mail-in test strips, such as to LabCorp, but I wasn’t able to find a simple on-the-spot urine test strip. If K is significantly elevated, it will recycle through the kidneys and urine. In turn, that will probably alter PH, which is easily measured on many urine test strips, but I don’t know if that route of inference has much specificity. For now, I’m forgoing bananas but otherwise eating my same Mediterranean diet until I get my regular Life Extension blood test. I have read that elevated serum K is a greater concern when there is significant kidney impairment and/or a high sartan dose.
In worms…
Previous research has shown rilmenidine mimics the effects of caloric restriction on a cellular level. Reducing available energy while maintaining nutrition within the body has been shown to extend lifespans in several animal models.
Whether this translates to human biology, or is a potential risk to our health, is a topic of ongoing debate. Finding ways to achieve the same benefits without the costs of extreme calorie cutting could lead to new ways to improve health in old age.
In a study published in January, young and old Caenorhabditis elegans worms treated with the drug – which is normally used to treat high blood pressure – lived longer and presented higher measures in a variety of health markers in the same way as restricting calories, as the scientists had hoped.
What about rilmenidine vs viagra?
I read many articles before I switched from losartan to telmisartan, Telemsarten also has longevity effects and fewer side effects than rilmenidine.
“What should pleasantly surprise members taking antihypertensive drugs now is that telmisartan has displayed longevity benefits above and beyond its ability to control blood pressure 24 hours a day”
So, I won’t be switching to ranitidine at this time. I might reconsider in the future if there are any real benefits to switching from telmisartan to ranitidine
“Telmisartan reduces the risk of dementia & cognitive impairment”.
“Telmisartan recommended over rilmenidine due to better evidence for cardiovascular protection”
“Of all the drugs in this class, telmisartan stands out as superior for potential longevity enhancement.101-103”

A bit more on rilmenidine.
I am seeing my physician in 2 weeks. I think I will ask about it then.
It’s only been shown to extend lifespan in worms, as far as I have heard, so still really early as far as I’m concerned. Show me some good mouse lifespan studies at least…
The hypertension reduction is a good thing - if you get an age benefit too - double win!
Like finasteride for small prostrate and prostate cancer prevention – you also get to keep your hair and clears cholesterol from the blood.
This is an article from 2023 (look at the end) that comments on the article originally posted here. Nothing new, just ScienceAlert’s usual click bait title.
The conclusion of an article Attia wrote on rilmenidine in October 2023. I was not impressed with the research either. Of note, is that my India importer does not carry the drug.
“However, the study by Bennett et al. raises the possibility that this medication may have other, independent benefits for lifespan and cellular aging processes. Based on their data, I’m not convinced this treatment works in nematode worms, let alone having promise for humans. With any luck, further work may prove me wrong, but until then, rilmenidine as a longevity drug seems like the latest in a long line of “fountain of youth” myths.”
Thanks Rob,
Hmmm?
Still might give a go until my next blood panel. About 6 months.
Telmisartan appears to have human studied extra “benefits” plus the bp reduction as has been extensively discussed on this forum.
I wouldn’t switch to Rimenidine based only on evidence in worms.
