Personally, I’m beginning to be concerned about PFAS levels in protein powders and collagen.
W/o much data on this, I’ve assumed that there’s bound to be significant amounts in collagen, and often just use glycine instead. I’m not sure if there’s an affordable alternative for protein powder.
I’m no expert but I’d assume it’s always a matter of degree. Homemade has got to be better than industrially manufactured and stored in plastic containers for long periods of time while heated (in transport?).
Consumerlabs tested multiple protein powders specifically to measure how much of the powder was actually protein. It was astonishing to me how little actual protein some contained! The best rated (I think something like 95% protein) was Nutricost which surprisingly is one of the more reasonably priced choices.
