Taking vitamin D2 might lower the body’s levels of the more efficient form of vitamin D, vitamin D3, according to new research from the University of Surrey, John Innes Centre and Quadram Institute Bioscience. Many people take vitamin D supplements to support their bone and immune health and meet the UK government recommendation of 10 micrograms (µg) each day, especially during the winter months.
There are two forms of vitamin D supplements available: vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. Researchers have found that taking vitamin D2 supplements can lead to a drop in the body’s concentration of vitamin D3, which is the form our bodies naturally produce from sunlight and use most effectively to raise overall vitamin D levels.
If you are taking the common Vit D pills (cholecalciferol), it will not affect your blood test level. If you are taking calcifediol, it will definitely skewer the results … as it raises the level almost within the hour.
Your liver is not working well to convert it into the active form… just like mine. Try taking calcifediol instead… (but a lot less… no more than 10mcg per day)
I just got my blood work back for Vitamin D…

Previously I was ranging between 72 - 98 nmol/L.
However, the reason why this test is so high is because the night before I accidentally took 5 x 10mcg of calcifediol… and as you know it will raise the vitamin D level very quickly. I will have to wait another 4 weeks before I take another blood test and then see if i can maintain around 110nmol/L by just taking 10mcg x2 a week, since we know the half life is about 2 weeks in calcifediol.
I bought a bottle of Swisse fast acting Vitamin D (calcifediol) from the local pharmacy for $14 AUD, which has 90x 10mcg tablets. Good to know that it works. I know my liver isnt the best organ to rely on for Vitamin D.
Hmmmm… great to know, vitamin D helps build muscles
reduce fat through calories.
My Vitamin D is checked every 4 months by my physician - he keeps me at high normal 80+.
Out of curiosity, why so high? That is certainly above any guidelines and we know that we don’t fully understand all that vitamin D does.
Guidelines say don’t supplement over 50. Certain disease states have certain specialists going higher but usually 70. I have seen patients admitted to the hospital from over supplementation.
Not that I think 80 is bad just wondering the rational.
I am wondering if lamps wouldn’t be a better idea. Sort of like salmon instead of fish pills.
You asked: That is certainly above any guidelines …
Not my lab test guidelines. Range is 30 to 100. I only hit these higher levels (83.5) when I add modest sun tanning to my supplement of D3. See:
Also, my B12 is kept high… went up this time. Only slightly above range. But, my doctor said fine. Great for neurological function - cognitive function - mental health, energy function.
He likes numbers as high as possible within the normal range… testosterone estradiol, potassium… etc.
Vitamin D at 83 from my checkup a few weeks ago. Spent New Years in Puerto Rico… on the beach, definitely kicked it up. Lol
How are your numbers Joe?
@Agetron I need to test again. I’ve been unable to get much sunshine lately plus I just had some cancer cut out of my back. I’ve been taking Vitamin D3 as Calcifediol for a year now as I’m convinced Vit D is low hanging fruit. My last test was 42 after a year of high dose supplementation. I’m aiming for 60-80 but using hand grenades instead of a sniper rifle
@Joseph_Lavelle sorry to hear you found cancer!!! I’m also very happy to hear you caught it!!! Did you discover a lump?
My vit d is usually in the 70’s. I have 2000iu in my multi and then I add 2000iu more from Vitamore.
Hopefully the rapamycin will prevent future cancer cell issues.
Good for you Joe.
Posted in another thread, review.
Review / search the the high-dose vitamin D protocol , known as the Coimbra protocol.
One of the better videos
Thanks. Yes a lump (or so I’m told…it was on my back). It quickly became a wound with the skin broken. A photo was taken. By the time I got into the doctor, it was healed enough to not look like anything. The photo looked suspicious so a biopsy was taken. And sure enough it was a Squamish cell. I’m now using a cream to kill it.
It’s my first cancer. Probably not my last.
I think it will help. I got off rapa last summer after I got sick twice and felt off for 5 months. I think my immune system was down; I quit rapa and fasting to let the immune function come back to full power. I’d guess that’s when the cancer got away. I’m back to full power now; stronger than ever; healthy as a young Joe. Rapa to restart soon but this time I’m going to follow a Kaeberlein protocol rather than the every month big dose (7mg w/GFj) combined with monthly FMD approach I was using. That was too much stress apparently.
Thanks. I saw this before. It is very good. I’m sold on vitamin D.
My D is in range but sub-optimal at 31, a score that should be expected from a non-supplementing, sun-avoiding subject with pale Irish skin. Truly, I hate the sun, except for the distant sun of a northern winter. I love to watch that winter sun go down.
You’re high normal in everything.
Nice… will take that a compliment. Go big or go home.
Only interested in longevity because so much to see and do. 100 years isn’t enough years. Lol
