I’ve been taking Calcifediol for two weeks and before that I was taking fairly high dose Vit D3 for 6 months to move my Vit D from 30 to, hopefully something like 50/60, during the Winter. OmegaQuant test is in the mail. I also did the full Omega Index test. I was 10% last year; I’ll bet I’m higher now based on how much easier it was to capture the finger prick (blood). Last year I could barely get a drop. This time I thought I’d bleed to death (kidding, but I definitely needed bandaids).
The OmegaQuant lancets are aggressive.
They are good. They do not hurt and they do draw blood.
Test results are in: 42 ng/ml.
A surprisingly small improvement with all my efforts to increase. I don’t think I’m willing to take more Vit D (whatever variety). Now that I’m walking 2,5 miles a day (x2 on weekends) I should see a bump there but time of day might be an issue.
Have you tried 25OHD itself (Calcifediol). I am going through a sequence of tests of some 25OHD tablets. I have had two weeks at 1 tablet a day, 2 weeks at 2 tablets a day. A week and two days at no supplementation at all and I have just started on 3 tablets a day which I will continue until a blood test next Tuesday. I may stick at 3 tablets a day until the next week.
I think that Cholecalciferol has quite a bit of wastage as people up the daily dose.
I have managed to get my 25OHD levels up really high (initially by mistake as I went over 400 UK units (nmol/l) which is 160 US units.
Test results are in:
Omega Index: 8.6%. (Down from 10.3% in 2024)
I’m shocked. I’m still assessing but it’s good info. My omega 3’s are dominated by DHA (I eat a lot of tuna which is heavy in DHA), so I may emphasize EPA in any supplementation.
I also did the full test to see the details and other fatty acids
Omega 6 to 3 — 3.9:1 (target: 3.1 to 5.1)
AA to EPA — 5.2:1 (target: 2.5:1 to 11:1)
Trans fats index— 0.18% (target: <1%)
My talk with Bill Harris PhD of OmegaQuant will be out this weekend
75 Mcg is 3,000 IU. Hence that is only 3,000 iu per week under 450 per day. I have tested 14,000 per week, 28,000 per week and zero per week and am currently on 42,000 per week.
That’s not much. And this stuff is too expensive for such marginal results. I’ll go back to my previous 10k per day of D3 during the winter months and perhaps all year if my test results don’t get to 50.
The 25OHD in the UK is not that expensive. How much does it cost in the USA?
$8 per pill (a one week dose, per the package)
These deliver to the USA
120,000 iu for GBP 15 rather than 3000 iu for USD 8
That is what I’ve been taking. $18 US for 60 pills, 2000iu each
Free shipping if you order a few packages.
Have you got any test results back yet? I have some. I find 1 pill a day cannot maintain a high level of 25OHD, but 2 pills results in the 25OHD increasing. What the steady state is yet is not clear and as it is summer time I am getting more UV D3 anyway.
Here you go!
I started taking 1 VitamoreD 2000iu daily on 2/25/25
For over a year, and during this test, I’ve been getting 2000iu of cholecalciferol daily in my Blueprint multi.
Until I started taking the VitamoreD, I was taking an additional 5000iu of cholecalciferol 3-4 days per week.
Lab Date - Vit D ng/ml
03/21/25 - 72
10/10/24 - 69.2
03/25/24 - 69
@John_Hemming @Beth I ordered 3 packs of the VitamoreD. I’ll retest at the end of the Summer. Thanks.
Maybe consider getting a prescription? Mine cost less than 50 for 50k IUs once a week, for 6 months. Went from 26 to over 50 ng/mL.
Like you vitamin D supplements only got me so far 48 after several years of avoiding the sun.
Added a little sun 20 minutes every 3-4 days with supplements bounced up to 70. A good number.
@Agetron I am hoping for some sunshine magic. I now live next to a lake where I walk 2.5 miles every day. So far I’m not getting much UV as I’m walking at 6pm but the weekends (if it ever stops raining) are my best bet. In the Summer my efforts will shift to avoiding too much UV, but one thing at a time.
