You are the one who got the ball rolling on EMF harms, I’m only trying to illustrate that there is very little that can be done without extreme measures. Many “influencer” types and pseudo scientists are on this bandwagon and making good money selling products that claim to alleviate this issue while nothing could be further from the truth. This is a hard, well established science based on fundamental physics.

In antenna design I tried many times to defeat physics and I got my a$$ handed to me every time. But I did find a way to cheat physics :slight_smile:

Protecting large spaces from EMF, ELF, RF is extremely difficult and very technical.

I had the good fortune to work with 2 PhD’s in this area (one from Blackberry and the other from Samsung) and learned a lot but nothing near what they live and breath so I’ll rely on what they tried to teach me. Every time I worked with those guys my ignorance in this area was quite clear to me.

If EMF is a concern for you, to do it right is not inexpensive. If it’s not a real issue for you, get started with some Rapamycin :slight_smile:

Faraday cages are simple in theory, surprisingly hard in engineering practice. Even small ones, like the pouches for your phone, wallet etc. - very hard to get 100% signal blockage, and then there’s the issue of metal fatigue; you have to put your phone/wallet etc. into the pouch, and then take it out. Do that a number of times, and the metal mesh starts breaking in exactly the same way as any copper/metal wire that you flex repeatedly will eventually break or become compromised. There are many people walking around convinced that they have fully functioning faraday pouches for their phone, because they tested it when they first got it, and it passed the test 100%. Except, 6 months down the road with continuous use, that’s no longer true. It’s a deceptively hard problem - not trivial at all.

Well said! You even need conductive gaskets for every openings and maintain them very clean otherwise if they don’t have a very good contact they are useless. at 6GHz you also need a rather small mesh. For low frequency, metal thickness is an issue and you will need thick metal.

At 60 Hz in copper, skin depth is about 8.5 mm so forget a thin wire mesh you need thick metal plates.

BTW faraday cages don’t shield from magnetic fields which might have even more biological effects as seen in transcranial magnetic stimulation devices.

Q5X just happens to be a tenant in our building so I asked to take some pics of the Faraday boxes I’ve mentioned previously. The small ones we picked up for $300 each at the BB auction, I think we grabbed 5. The bigger one, we got at the next auction for $3k and new it would have been around $15k. Just a simple box you can make in your garage LoL!
