I agree with your general points but a significant modulating consideration is recent evidence that the increases in life and generally healthspan we have seen since since medicine began to embrace scientific reasoning are plateauing. As one researcher put it, “We may have picked all of the low hanging fruit.” As further support of this position, we are now seeing lifespans tick down in nations in association with their social and cultural problems. Such is the case in the US. Substance abuse and depression are proximate causes of the decline but underlying drivers implicate side effects of a strong populist movement and the impact of an economy that has marginalized a significant portion of the working class leading to the growth of anti-scientific, anti-vax movements among disaffected non-college educated males.
Overall, the data suggest that we will not see much if any increase among advanced nations in the coming few years and we may even see a slight decrease due to the effects of geopolitical changes on human health.
I do like them but it seems uninspiring and irrelevant to be commenting on someone’s writing style. I’ve seen that kind of henpecking before in this group.
