Celebrity Deaths

I was not familiar with him, but I got a lump in my throat when I saw the headline. So young to have such a cruel disease

He was fantastic on the show euphoria. I had no clue he wasn’t doing well. I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to ALS but it sounds like as horrible of a disease as it gets. Sad news.

Jesse Jackson, aged 84. Feb 17/2026.
Appears he passed away peacefully. However, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2017.
In 2025 he was diagnosed with PSP - progressive supranuclear palsy.

Both Jesse and as @Beth mentioned above about Eric Dane, are 2 celebrities this week who died of motor neuron diseases. If anyone has any input about these diseases please share - tests, supplements, Rx, or whatever else.

I was watching a Charlie Sheen interview recently, and it that made me recall what you said.

Starting around 5:18 of the video:
“…then there was a guy working on the set, I don’t know if he was Clint’s (Eastwood) trainer specifically but he was there in some capacity, some health capacity, and then he was like “hey, I can get steroids if you want those too”. And I’m like sure, and so I’m doing anavar and that kind of stuff…”

This might have been Durk that Charlie was referring to.
Here is another video of Durk and Sandy in 1991. They both look more muscular than they were in the 80’s.

The movie that Charlie mentioned working with Clint (The Rookie) was made in 1990.
The timeline kinda of fits in my opinion.
Would have been awesome to hear Durk and Sandy’s thoughts on various hormones, steroids, or anything else they enjoyed but never wrote about.

I think these are accelerated aging of neurons

Mel Brooks also served in WWII and survived the battle of the bulge where there were many casualties.

Legendary singer, Neil Sedaka, died on Friday, Feb. 27 at the age of 86.

I am starting to experience survivor guilt.

You can ease your guilt looking at Mel Brooks who will be 100 in a few months🤣…

He never exercises, has an indifferent diet (eggs, deli meat etc.), awful sleep habits, but is a huge consumer of medical journals. Back in the day, they used to say “if you can’t afford a doctor, just ask Mel”. He’d give you advice between puffs of his cigarette😅. Still ticking along, sharp as a tack.

I was just listening to “Laughter in the Rain” yesterday. Mr. Sedaka was a gifted pianist and arranger with an unusual voice. I have much more appreciation for his music now than I did back in the seventies.

Yes, Walford didn’t make it that long. Valter Longo mentioned that he thought his extreme period in the biosphere experiment may have weakened him so much as to make him susceptible to acquiring ALS. Hard to say really, but ashamed as he was a pioneer in the whole CR/longevity space.

Celebrity deaths in the past few weeks of February 2026 . All 3 deaths from self inflicted gun shot.

  1. Robert Carradine (Actor) 71
  2. Katherine Short (Martin Short’s daughter) 42
  3. Rondale Moore (Football) 25

There does not seem to be much in the way of longevity drugs that are in the mental health category at this time.
However, they could be considered longevity drugs if they help prevent suicide.
No shame if one needs 2 or more drugs (plus supplements) for mental health. There seems to be many chemicals involved with mental health.
There are other therapies & technologies that could also help.

Longevity drugs for depression and mental health.

  1. Lithium orotate
  2. GLYNAC (mostly the NAC)
  3. Omega 3s

Walford really was a pioneer in the longevity field…before there even was a “field”. He was heavily into CR.
However, when he was diagnosed with ALS he persisted with CR. Some speculated that it may have even hastened his demise.

I can definitely see that happening. I used to work at an ALS clinic and the nutrition component was quite important due to the swallowing and wasting challenges that came with the disease process.

Another death: Stephanie Buttermore, the girlfriend/fiance of well-known fitness “scientific lifting” influencer Jeff Nippard. Anybody who watched any sort of fitness/lifting content has definitely seen his videos. She was also a PhD graduate who did ovarian cancer research, and she also had her own channel for a while about fitness, dieting, being a carer for her mother etc.

Aged 36. Cause of death unknown right now. The statement said “sudden” and asked for privacy, which is (IMO) code word for suicide.

She quit social media back in 2024, citing mental health reasons. And there’s been a lot of speculation about her massive weight/appearance fluctuations. She was naturally very beautiful, but once she started having her own channel, she was doing things like eating and diet challenges, gained and lost huge amounts of weight, and talked about her appetite dysregulation, being unhappy with her body after the weight gain etc. A few years ago she also had a whole bunch of cosmetic surgeries - getting big breast implants, lots of facial fillers, liposuction etc. Almost totally changed her whole appearance.

She was also subject to huge amounts of online bullying and criticism. As part of her “schtick” she would post these “unedited” or “realistic” photos of herself looking imperfect, but amateur sleuths on Reddit would point out how they’d still been photoshopped. Her YouTube audience was mostly women, and many also had eating disorders. She was regularly criticised for giving out terrible, misleading or dangerous advice to that sort of vulnerable audience.

So I am speculating, but it looks like somebody who struggled with an eating disorder, tied her self-worth into her appearance, and was never happy with how she looked or felt. I’d speculate that her death would be related to that - either suicide, or something related to the obvious weight loss. Very sad either way for somebody so young and clearly intelligent.

Another young guy: Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon dies aged 54

Nicholas Brendon, who played “Xander” in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died at 54 years old

Brendon was open about his health struggles, including a heart attack, and underwent two spinal surgeries for cauda equina syndrome, a rare condition that can affect movement as well as bladder and bowel function.

The late actor had also opened up about his struggles with substance addiction, alcoholism and mental health issues.

Passed in his sleep from natural causes

I would guess some sort of cardiac arrhythmia, which would be massively exacerbated by a previous heart attack. Having already had an MI at his age quite likely (IMO) means some sort of genetic condition, like hypercholesterolemia. And the substance abuse can definitely accelerate things, or even cause MI by itself (for example, cocaine or amphetamines can cause vasospasm of the coronary artery). And with depression, chronic pain etc, I would assume he was on a cocktail of drugs, many of which can cause arrhythmias.

Poor guy - another wealthy celebrity passing away super young.

People might recall that his Buffy co-star Michelle Trachtenberg - Wikipedia also passed away recently aged only 39. I watched that show as a kid. Who knew it was so cursed!
