Why are people posting about BP in the “Corruption” thread?
Sorry. We got a little off-topic talking about the healthcare system in Hong Kong. It’s an example of an efficient and non-corrupt health system, IMHO.
No new news, but yes it needs to be focused on to work on a fix. Mean time living within a broken system its a case of top performers jump outside the care system into the 99% DIY health care and those folks are better served IMHO. They are more knowledgable about their bodies, about medicine, about physiology about closer to actual facts vs manipulations starting with the medical school text books, profs, drug cos on wards. A few are much better off. IE those who are here. Sad sad, its true, very sad.
Instead of going a primary care service I google, read (here) and order from Jagdesh in India. ;-\
If the system mostly worked I know my wife and I would not be nearly as knowledgable or healthy!!! A paradox.
Best to all, curt
This a quote from an American Dr.
About 52,000 Canadians left their country for medical care as Canada had a medical care system that ranked 10th out of the 11 medical care systems in the developed world.
To be fair, I have helped a few Canadians with very unusual medical problems seek assistance in the US at one of the top university hospitals. The Canadians who came to the US came with financial assistance from the Canadian medical system.
More than a million Americans left the country seeking medical treatment, and that included a number of my own patients. More than one million Americans will leave the US for medical care this year Unlike the Canadians with whom I had contact, the Americans left to get medical care that was affordable and did not get any help from their insurance company or the federal government.
In this edition of Mirror, Mirror, we compare the health systems of 10 countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We examine five key domains of health system performance: access to care, care process, administrative efficiency, equity, and health outcomes (each is defined below).
